The

Tea Cosy Project

About the tea cosy project

The Tea Cosy Project is part of the Celebrate Ageing Program - it engages individuals, families, communities, organisations and governments in addressing ageism through arts based approaches. Tea is an acronym for Transforming the Experience of Ageing. A tea cosy is something associated with Elders, it adds warmth and insulates - we want to send messages of warmth, love and respect to Elders and we want to insulate ourselves against the caustic effects of ageism. The project includes the making of Tea Cosies (like this beautiful one by Loani Prior) but is also includes:
  1. Love Cosies: tea cosy stories about older people we love
  2. Insulator Cosies: art protecting against internalised ageism
  3. Place365: stories (photos and images) from older people about their sense of place and belonging
  4. Kitchen Table: exploring kitchen table cultures and the role families play in building respect for older people
  5. Teaspoons for Respect: messages about respect for older people
  6. Dictionary of Ageism: naming ageism in everyday culture ...coming soon ...
  7. Grateful Ageing: a gratitude project exploring ageing as a privilege
  8. Becoming: art about ageing bodies and who we are Becoming.

about CELEBRATE AGEING

Celebrate Ageing is a National Program challenging ageism and building respect for older people. This self-funded Program was established in 2016 by Dr Catherine Barrett, a facilitator, capacity builder, researcher and artist with over 30 years experience working with older people. The Celebrate Ageing program includes The Tea Cosy Project: art & narratives challenging ageism. We also have three other projects with their own websites - see details below and links in the menu above.

  1. Embolden: our new website for our annual Embolden Festival challenging ageism
  2. The Museum of Love: art exploring the importance of love in the lives of people with dementia
  3. The OPAL Institute: addressing the sexual rights of older people
  4. Alice's Garage: empowering older LGBTI people & promoting healthy LGBTI ageing
  5. Projecting Beauty: catwalks against ageism.

What's new?

Proud to have been nominated as finalist for the 2018 Human Rights Medal - love this recognition of older people's human rights. More information here.
